There are two sets of numbers in Korean: the native Korean system and the Sino-Korean system. The native numbers are used for numbers of items (1-99) and age, while the Sino-Korean system is based on Chinese numbers and are used for dates, money, addresses, phone numbers, and numbers above 100.

Did you know the Korean word for STOP is Geuman
We don’t use it much in our classes preferring to use the word for return which is Baro.
Korean words which are translated are often spelt differently especially when a K or a G is involved as they sound so similar in Korean.
Geuman when spoken sounds like ‘Kuman’.

The Korean word for Posture or position is Jase which is often used in class.
Joon-bee Jase - Ready Position (sounds like Chumbi)
This is not to be confused with the word for stance which is Seogi.

Ap Chagi - Front Kick
Yop (Yeop) Chagi - Side Kick
Dollyeo Chagi - Roundhouse Kick
Dwi Chagi - Back Kick

Master Walker will be running this session. If the class is suitable we often take the opportunity to do Bong (Stick/Staff). If you don’t have a Bong and you train outside a school please speak to your instructor about the most appropriate Bong. You should be working on your Bong from about Purple belt. At Red Stripe it is unavoidable and so much to learn if you leave it too late.
Sadly we cannot do Bong in schools for obvious reasons. At Red Stripe school only students will be expected to be able to demonstrate the Kick Forms 1 and 2.
Karate has fitness benefits, both aerobic and anaerobic depending on the intensity of the workout. It also will improve flexibility through stretching and strength from exercises.
