3/2/2015 - For the love of MAFL with Alison Newband

ALISON NEWBAND - 3rd Dan

Alison is an instructor with MAFL and has been training with us for 10 years

What made you want to start training in Martial Arts?
My son was doing it, and it looked fun and more interesting than sitting on the side waiting.  I ached for a week the first time I did it, and thought I have to go back, it was every muscle in my body!

Had you done any Martial arts before?
Never did martial arts until this one, now I do Tai Chi as well!

Why do you still train now?
I love doing it and I still think I am a beginner!

What is it about MAFL that you like?
The Club is quite relaxed and the people are very friendly, we want you to have fun and learn something in the process.

What would you say to a beginner thinking of coming to a class?
Just come and actually have a go, if you have not had fun by the end of the session then ok, but if you did have fun, come back and try again.  As a grown up, I have always wondered why I like Martial Arts Movies.  If you do, then you will like it!  Also, don't worry if you think you cannot do it, we know you can, let us help you to train your body so it can!

What would you say to a new Dan Grade to help them keep up their training?
Getting to Dan Grade is the best thing in the world, the best thing after that is being able to pass on what you know and see how well someone else can do it.  There are lots of new things to learn and practise throughout your journey.  I never get bored in a class EVER!
